We can see clearly now after the job done by Ryan of Thompson’s Window Cleaning (excellent work by a nice guy).  Beyond seeing that we’re actually across the lot from a Summer Breeze Tanning, we see an impromptu Tuesday (3/16) White Wine Sale!

All day buy a bottle of white and the 2nd is 25% OFF.  Starting at Happy Hour (heck, why not all evening) we’ll pour $5 Glasses of Benvolio Pinot Grigio (Friuli, It.) PLUS offer 50% OFF your 2nd Glass of White!  Don’t forget it’s our final Tuesday edition of Free Movie “Flight” Night with “In America” & 50% Wine Flights.  This Big Ass Tuesday promotion merits debuting the Big Ass Chardonnay from Napa as well.

No Napa Snobbery Here!

So what were the results of our survey regarding Tuesday Tasting Events vs. Wednesdays? As Richard Dawson shouted on Family Feud, “Our survey said . . . Tuesdays! Congrats to Cheryl M. on winning the $25 EWCo. Certificate for participating.

Maybe there’s something subconsciously “distasteful” about a Tasting on “Hump” Day? Whatever the reason, a supermajority of respondents favored the day named after the Old English God of War & Law , “Tiw” (literally, as in “Tiw’s day”).

With regrets to Kaussandra S., Peter B., et al., EWCo. will transition to Tuesdays for our Tasting Events. We’ll kick it off with a celebratory tasting of Sparkling Wine on Tuesday March 23. Wine Professional and avid bubbly drinker Ryan O’Malley of Regal Wine will be our Guest Pourer. Among the gems Ryan will share is a New Mexico Sparkler that’s poured at the Waldorf Astoria!

Do you offer wine tasting?” We often get that question. Our internal wise guy wants to answer with a simple, “Yes”. But that wouldn’t do much to advance the inquirer’s knowledge base.

Tasting at a winery involves sampling their current releases for a few dollars and departing with a souvenir glass. At a mass tasting event or festival (e.g., “ Taste of Camarillo”) it means an admission fee to bounce from one winery’s tasting table to the next. Near the end of such events, “bounce” is an accurate descriptor.

At Essential Wine Co. “Wine Tastingcomes in several flavors:

1. “Flights” of Wine: Sample tastes of 3 different wines poured side-by-side-by-side. The themes for creating a Flight are numerous. A favorite of ours is “Not Your Average White Band”. It avoids standards like Chard & Sauv Blanc in favor of Gewurz, Viognier, Roussanne, et al.

2. Tasting Events: Instead of a themed flight, it’s a themed night. Sometimes EWCo.’s granite bar is graced by guest pouring winemakers or winery reps (e.g., Lucas & Lewellen’s Jacob Reitzin on 3/10 ). Or it could be mere mortal and “certified wine guy” Casey shilling our wares (7 Tastes of Wine for $19.99” on 2/24) or presenting a Wine Class (Cheese & Wine Pairing” on 3/3).

3. “We don’t want to get you into any wine that you won’t be happy with”: We are quite liberal in giving tastes before Patrons get a bottle or glass. It’s part of our patented, copyrighted & trademarked “ Try Before You Buy” concept. Our list doesn’t offer the commonplace. We want Patrons to be comfortable “buying in” to a White Burgundy, a Monterey Petite Sirah, or a New Zealand Pinot.
